Jason Richman represents companies and individuals in high-stakes government investigations, criminal enforcement proceedings and complex litigation. He draws on more than 10 years of experience at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York (SDNY), where he most recently served as the Co-Chief of the National Security and International Narcotics Unit.

At SDNY, Jason investigated and then supervised the nation’s most sensitive prosecutions involving national security, international narcotics trafficking, sanctions evasion, export control violations and money laundering. He has prosecuted and supervised the prosecution of multiple former heads of state and the perpetrators of multiple terrorist attacks around the world.

Jason has extensive experience handling matters at the intersection of national security and white-collar enforcement. At SDNY, he regularly coordinated with leadership at the Office of the Deputy Attorney General (ODAG) and the National Security Division (NSD) at the Department of Justice; the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) at the Department of the Treasury; in-country personnel at U.S. embassies around the world; the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) at the Department of Commerce; and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Drug Enforcement Administration, New York City Police Department and Homeland Security Investigations. The matters he supervised included:

  • An investigation resulting in charges against three defendants accused of conspiring to divert billions of dollars of U.S. artificial intelligence technology to China in violation of export control laws.
  • An investigation into an oil-laundering network linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, resulting in terrorism and sanctions evasion charges and the seizure of over $100 million connected to the scheme.
  • Investigations regarding the provision of material support to designated foreign terrorist organizations on multiple continents.

Jason also led and supervised complex international investigations involving alleged state-sponsored narcotics-trafficking conspiracies. This work has spanned the globe, and included investigations of high-ranking government officials in Colombia, Guatemala, Mexico, Honduras, Venezuela, the Bahamas and several other nations. These investigations resulted in charges against some of the world’s largest narcotics traffickers, and dozens of government and law enforcement officials, including former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro Moros and former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández.

In addition, Jason was a member of SDNY’s Securities and Commodities Fraud Task Force, where he focused on investigations and prosecutions involving insider trading, international market manipulation and accounting fraud. He prosecuted the former billionaire owner of an international soccer club for insider trading and prosecuted an international stock manipulation ring with charged co-conspirators in Canada, the United Kingdom, Bulgaria, Spain, Monaco, Turkey and the Bahamas.

Jason’s trial experience includes:

  • The five-month capital trial of Sayfullo Saipov, who killed eight people in an ISIS-inspired terrorist attack on New York City’s West Side Highway bike path on October 31, 2017.
  • The successful trial of Alexei Saab, a former Hezbollah operative tasked with, among other things, conducting pre-attack surveillance in the United States, and who had been residing in New Jersey until his arrest and subsequent conviction.
  • The successful trial of Juan Antonio Hernandez Alvarado, a/k/a “Tony Hernandez,” the brother of the former Honduran president convicted after trial of conspiring to import over 100 tons of cocaine to the United States and subsequently sentenced to life in prison.

Jason also supervised trials involving terrorism, murder-for-hire, international narcotics trafficking and sanctions violations.

Jason served as a lecturer on classified litigation and national security prosecutions for other prosecutors throughout the country and frequently presented to international partners on the same. His recognitions at SDNY include the Federal Law Enforcement Foundation’s Prosecutor of the Year award in 2020 and the Executive Office for U.S. Attorneys’ Director’s Award for Superior Performance by a Litigative Team in 2024.
