The White House released a statement on April 20, asserting that natural gas transmission, processing, storage and liquefied natural gas (LNG) capacity fell under the powers granted to the president under the Defense Production Act (DPA) of 1950. The natural gas sector is studying how President Donald Trump’s declaration will affect projects, with the consensus that any impact is difficult to predict and unlikely to materialize in the near term.

It was a novel use of the DPA, and two days later, people within the energy industry were still trying to determine how it applied to their projects, Bracewell’s Joe Brazauskas told Hart Energy.

“We’re trying to help folks understand what the runway looks like,” Brazauskas said.
