Jason Lewis will moderate a panel titled “State of the Market: New BYOC Power Supply Paradigms, Hybrid Energy Campuses, and Deal Trends” at the PowerUp Data Centers – Infrastructure conference in Austin, Texas. As Speed to Power desires outstrip the ability to access power supplied by the grid, innovative Bring Your Own Capacity (BYOC) strategies are emerging. Often featuring large hybrid data center/power generation sites that can incorporate a wide range of generation and energy storage technologies, these enormous infrastructure developments are engendering innovative deals that in many ways could create new paradigms for powering large loads. This panel will explore the policy, regulatory, and operational issues in powering data centers with utility-scale generation assets and discuss how that is affecting deal trends. Key discussion topics include:

  • Are we moving past the monolithic power infrastructure to more portable, single pass powering data centers?
  • What issues can be encountered with powering data centers with legacy gas, nuclear and other generation assets?
  • What role could energy storage systems play? And what duration and other operational factors should be considered in BESS design for data center applications?
  • With time to revenue taking on even more importance to data center developers, will hyperscalers be able to accelerate their projects by bypassing public networks via private investment?
  • What are the best solutions to economically provide critical backup power?
  • Who is the right partner? PPA terms?
  • Will hyperscalers continue to acquire power generators and developers?
