Bracewell’s Bill Mahomes recently sat down with John Sharp, chancellor of the Texas A&M University System, for a feature segment on “Around Texas With Chancellor John Sharp.”

Mahomes, Aggie class of ’69, was the first black student at Texas A&M to spend four years in the school’s Corps of Cadets.

“I was learning to grow up in terms of knowing that I can’t just avoid things. I really have to face things,” said Mahomes. “But everything that A&M stood for was kind of what I wanted to be, and that was part of the reason, quite frankly, that I stayed in the Corps, even though I received a lot of resistance from time to time.”

Mahomes broke down racial barriers to become the current chairman of the board of the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents, a distinguished alumnus of Texas A&M and a member of the Corps Hall of Honor.
