Bracewell’s Gene Elrod spoke to Law360 Pulse about joining the firm’s energy regulatory group to continue focusing on his core area of practice representing oil and gas pipeline companies in federal and state regulatory matters.

“It’s an excellent fit for me. It’s an opportunity for me to really focus on my core practice, and I’m delighted to be here. I look at it as a great opportunity at this point in my career,” said Elrod.

Elrod also reflected on his time at the Federal Power Commission, calling those few years in federal service a “tremendous experience,” which came right after the October 1973 oil embargo, he said.

“It was a time when energy prices were just growing at a rapid rate, and there was lots of activity in gas pipeline and electric utility rate matters, which is what I worked on at the FPC,” he said.

Elrod added that he was looking forward to providing mentorship to younger associates, in the same way he had been guided by partners throughout his career.

“One of the things I hope to do here … is to pay back for the great mentoring I’ve received over the years,” Elrod said.
