As Democrats look to regain control of one or both chambers of Congress in the midterm elections, oversight of the Trump administration is expected to intensify across a range of industries and policy areas. Among the potential targets are law firms that reached agreements with the administration, which could face renewed congressional scrutiny through investigations, hearings or subpoenas.

Bracewell’s Tom Moyer told The National Law Journal that “administration-focused [investigations] will be front and center” if Democrats gain a majority, which could include investigations into law firms that made deals with the Trump administration.

“It’s one of a number of topics that Democrats have been increasingly active on; I would expect that to continue, but certainly law firms aren’t the only industry that could get congressional scrutiny,” Moyer said.
