SAN ANTONIO AND WASHINGTON, DCJane H. Macon and Danielle M. Varnell have been named South Trailblazers by The American Lawyer for 2022. They are among the 54 lawyers in the southern region of the United States recognized for their significant mark on the practice, policy and technological advancements in their practice areas.

Macon, a partner in the firm’s San Antonio office, focuses her practice on public finance and administrative law, public and private partnerships, real estate, civil litigation, zoning, platting, condemnation and municipal bonds. She made San Antonio history when she became the first woman to serve as city attorney from 1977 to 1983.

Macon feels strongly that we, as citizens of the United States, are in a unique position to be change agents and help others who are less fortunate. “As lawyers, we have a duty to help pave the way for a better future for the downtrodden with innovative and creative solutions,” she told The American Lawyer.

Varnell, a partner in Bracewell’s Washington, DC office, has extensive experience in energy M&A, including development stage and operating projects, portfolio acquisitions and divestitures, and in carbon capture and sequestration, battery storage and offshore wind. She said that ensuring that our clients are fully prepared to participate in the energy transition is critical to her.

“One of the most rewarding aspects of my career is that the projects I work on are critical to the United States energy transition and provide sustainable, energy-efficient solutions to our nation’s power needs,” Varnell told American Lawyer.
