Three major bills that could have restricted renewable energy in Texas have died in the state’s House of Representatives. With the 2025 Texas legislative session ending June 2, several bills that passed the state Senate did not meet deadlines in the House to progress.
Bracewell’s Bryan Clark told the Houston Business Journal there’s been some pushback against renewable energy in the Texas Legislature as legislators have demanded more reliable power since the winter storm in 2021.
“What you’re still seeing is, rightly or wrongly, renewables were blamed in part for the blackouts that occurred during winter storm Uri. And so, I think there’s a certain belief that renewables need to be held back because they’re intermittent,” Clark said.
