Peter B. Siegal is an appellate partner in Bracewell’s Washington, DC office. His practice focuses on complex, high-stakes matters before the Supreme Court of the United States and federal courts of appeals, administrative agencies and trial courts. Peter’s expertise spans virtually every area of federal concern, including constitutional, administrative and intellectual property law; complex commercial litigation and class actions; and criminal law and procedure, including the Racketeer Influenced & Corrupt Organizations Act. He has especially deep experience in areas of importance to clients of Bracewell’s market-leading energy practices, and he works closely with clients and teams across those practices to develop strategy, brief and argue appeals in the D.C. Circuit and other courts, and navigate mission-critical rulemakings and adjudications before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and an array of other administrative bodies.
Peter is widely recognized as an emerging leader in the appellate space. Prior to his career in private practice, he served as a law clerk to the Honorable William J. Kayatta, Jr., of the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. More recently, he has been named to Benchmark Litigation’s U.S. National 40 & Under List, received the National Law Journal’s Rising Star Award (which recognizes the Washington, DC region’s most accomplished lawyers under 40), and routinely been recognized by Super Lawyers. He is also ranked among the nation’s leading appellate lawyers by Patexia, which analyzes patent-related appeals in the Federal Circuit.
Peter is a member of the Edward Coke Appellate Inn of Court and has been a participant in The Appellate Project’s Mentorship Program, a national initiative focused on supporting law students of color who are pursuing careers in appellate litigation.
