Mega-Deals in the Energy Sector. How Many More Can We Expect?

Bracewell’s Austin Lee gave comments to The American Lawyer concerning the recent mega-deals in the energy space announced this month and what the future may hold for more consolidation in the industry.

Lee said the deals will be a nice bellwether for how the regulatory environment, which had been fairly hands-off on energy during the last administration, will handle these deals.

“It will also be interesting to see how equity markets react, which will impact the ability of public companies to use equity and debt issuances to fund acquisitions,” stated Lee. “From a legal perspective, it will be interesting to see what regulatory challenges that these deals face given how active the FTC has been under this administration.”
