LONDONBracewell (UK) LLP has been named a finalist for Energy Team of the Year at the British Legal Awards 2025 for its innovative work advising British Solar Renewables (BSR) on its £350 million Capex portfolio financing. Winners will be announced on November 26 in London.

Led by partners Gordon Stewart and Tom Jamieson in London, and Tom Swarbrick in Dubai, Bracewell guided BSR on the company’s hybrid portfolio financings for UK renewable energy projects, funding the development and construction of solar and battery energy storage systems (BESS) to help meet the UK’s net zero targets. The transaction closed in June 2025.

Bracewell advised BSR throughout the structuring of the facilities, leveraging its market leadership in both traditional UK project finance and more bespoke holdco financing models. By adapting dynamic eligibility criteria and a flexible debt capacity regime from the holdco market, the team enabled construction of the portfolio to begin ahead of securing Contracts for Difference (CfDs) – the UK government’s mechanism for stabilizing renewable revenues – or the outcomes of grid reforms. This innovative approach reduced the overall cost of capital while protecting both lender and sponsor interests.

This honor adds to a series of accolades for Bracewell’s London-based energy and infrastructure team, highlighting its market-leading role in complex cross-border energy projects and transactions. Most recently, the firm was named Most Innovative Law Firm in Europe for Infrastructure at the Financial Times Innovative Lawyers Awards Europe 2025 for its representation of CrossBoundary Energy and Trident Energy on landmark African transactions. Bracewell has also been shortlisted for Energy/Infrastructure Team of the Year at the Legal Business Awards 2025.
