In a recent Platts Daily Briefing, Joshua Zive, a senior principal in Bracewell’s Policy Resolution Group, discussed the need to align tariff policies with energy infrastructure goals.

The incoming Trump administration has prioritized removing barriers to building oil and gas infrastructure, such as pipelines, and promoting energy generation to reduce electricity costs.

Zive notes, however, that “the energy sector needs tariff policies that support their infrastructure goals, not hinder them.”

He suggests that the administration should consider energy sector implications early in tariff planning rather than relying on a complex exclusions process later.

“Early consideration in tariff planning can save time and resources, making it unnecessary to navigate the complicated exclusions process,” said Zive.
