About Evan

Evan Flaschen is recognized internationally as a leader in out-of-court and in-court financial restructuring, amendment, insolvency, distressed M&A and litigation transactions. Evan devotes a significant portion of his practice to representing distressed investor and lender groups throughout the United States and internationally. Evan is also one of the market leaders in maritime restructurings, including serving as Chapter 11 debtor counsel for a number of international shipping groups.

Highlights of Evan’s industry experience include energy, power, minerals and mining, shipping, construction, real estate, automotive, financial services, manufacturing, telecommunications, housing and retail. His distressed litigation experience includes make-whole disputes, lender liability, fraudulent transfer, bankruptcy appeals (District Courts and Courts of Appeal), contested DIP financings, jurisdictional disputes, lift stay proceedings, 363 sales, sanctions, plan confirmation disputes and valuation disputes.

When he is is not leading clients through the high-stakes restructuring process, Evan is an active supporter of charitable causes in Connecticut. He has been recognized several times as the top fundraiser in Connecticut for the annual 100-mile charity bicycle ride benefiting the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. To date he has raised more than $500,000 for the organization. Evan is also the “blogger-in-chief” and poet laureate for Basis Points, an award-winning topical and irreverent blog for the restructuring and investment communities.

Evan has published more than 125 articles and book chapters in several different countries on workout, restructuring and international insolvency topics. He has also been a lecturer or panelist at more than 175 restructuring, insolvency, distressed debt and maritime shipping programs around the world and his legal writings have been cited by courts around the country and in more than 100 scholarly journals and treatises globally, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, Cayman Islands, China, England, Germany, Israel, Japan, Malaysia, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain and Sweden. They have also been required reading in a number of graduate school courses.
