HOUSTON – Bracewell LLP is pleased to announce that Texas Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Partner Jarvis V. Hollingsworth to serve as chair of the Teacher Retirement System of Texas Board of Trustees (TRS). The appointment marks the second time that Hollingsworth has served as board chair, previously serving from 2005 to 2008 following his appointment by former Texas Governor Rick Perry.
A partner in Bracewell’s Houston office, Hollingsworth is a member of the firm’s management committee. He leads a fiduciary and governance practice, advising boards of public and private companies and government and educational entities on their duties, corporate governance and director liability, as well as on regulatory and finance matters. He chairs the firm’s public and education law practice group. In addition, he co-chairs the firm’s diversity and inclusion committee, and is also a member of the political action committee. Hollingsworth is a former regent of the University of Houston System, where he served as chairman of the board, as well as chair of the finance, endowment, executive and compensation committees.
TRS is the largest public retirement system in Texas in both membership and assets and the sixth largest public pension trust fund in the United States, managing assets of $147 billion and health care benefits to more than 1.5 million public education employees. The TRS Board of Trustees is responsible for the administration of the system under provisions of the Texas constitution and laws.
Hollingsworth will serve through August 2023.
