Alan Albright Brings His IP Litigation Practice Back To Bracewell As Firm Adds Strength To Its National Trial Practice

Bracewell & Giuliani LLP announced today that Alan D Albright has re-joined the firm’s Austin office as a partner. Albright, who is a highly respected IP litigator, returns after a year at Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP.

Albright, a former United States Magistrate Judge in Austin, adds senior trial experience to Bracewell’s national IP litigation practice.

“I’m glad to be coming home to Bracewell and its Austin office,” said Alan D Albright.

Albright has served as an adjunct professor teaching Trial Advocacy at the University of Texas School of Law. He represents clients in patent and other intellectual property litigation. He has years of first chair trial experience in state and federal courts. The jury award Albright achieved in Syntrix Biosystems Inc. v. Illumina Inc. was recognized as the fourth largest IP verdict and among the top 20 overall verdicts of 2013 by the National Law Journal. Albright has long-standing experience trying patent cases for both plaintiffs and defendants.

The addition of Albright to Bracewell’s litigation practice follows the acquisition last month of Sean Gorman to the Houston office. Gorman joined the firm from litigation boutique Ahmad, Zavitsanos, Anaipakos, Alavi & Mensing P.C., and previously served as managing partner of the Dewey & LeBoeuf Houston office. Gorman focuses his practice on energy litigation.

“I was not looking to move but Bracewell offered an extraordinary platform and a cohesive group of trial lawyers operating across the U.S.,” said Sean Gorman.

“When I became section head in early 2014, I made recruiting senior trial talent one of my top priorities,” said Stephen B. Crain, Bracewell’s firm-wide head of litigation. “Bracewell has a great collection of seasoned lawyers who have tried or arbitrated significant cases across the country. I wanted to add senior leadership in key areas to our already strong team and specifically targeted Alan and Sean,” added Crain.

“The acquisitions of first Sean and now Alan are strong indications of the firm’s focus on strengthening key practice areas,” said Bracewell Managing Partner Mark C. Evans. “Bracewell has a robust trial and arbitration practice and adding senior trial lawyers in the IP and energy litigation areas is part of the firm’s overall strategy for targeted growth,” added Evans.
