Bracewell’s Adkins and Holmstead Named to List of Energy & Environmental Trailblazers

HOUSTON – Bracewell LLP Partners Jessica N. Adkins and Jeffrey R. Holmstead have been named to the list of Energy & Environmental Trailblazers as part of ALM’s National Law Journal Trailblazers series. Legal professionals recognized in this series are those who have done groundbreaking work in energy and environmental law.

Adkins’ practice focuses on energy transactions in the electric power sector. She was named to the list of trailblazers for her work advising renewable energy companies in structuring and negotiating non-traditional arrangements to sell and hedge power in order to enable the financing of new renewable generation capacity. In 2015, she advised First Reserve on a power hedge transaction for the 298 MW Kingfisher wind farm, which was named 2015 Commodity Deal of the Year at Isherwood Production Ltd., Commodities Now magazine’s Commodity Business Awards and 2015 Financial Deal of the Year at S&P Global’s Platts Global Energy Awards. She has also advised on a wide range of other non-traditional power sales and hedging arrangements, including agreements with large non-utility corporates entering the market in order to advance sustainability goals.

Holmstead has been a forerunner on energy-related environmental issues since the early 1990s, when he worked on the Clean Air Act and climate change issues as a White House lawyer. He currently advises a number of energy companies and business groups on compliance strategies and represents several of them in the ongoing litigation over the Clean Power Plan. Through his high-profile work on the Clean Power Plan and his advocacy before the EPA, Congress and the courts, Holmstead has again jumped to the forefront of the national debate over carbon emissions.

The list of Energy & Environmental Trailblazers will be featured in an upcoming issue of National Law Journal.
